A local organization makes a big donation to the City of Erie Fire Department, for training and equipment.

Thursday, the S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie donated a $5,500 check to the department's water rescue dive team.

It will go towards scuba diving training courses for several Erie firefighters.

They're also able to use the donation to purchase three ice rescue suits for the entire department to use.

Jerry Skrpzak, President of the S.O.N.S.  of Lake Erie says, because of the dedication of the firefighters, they've always been supporters of the department's dive team, "We have 100,000 fishermen that are licensed to fish in Lake Erie and its tributaries, with all those people, plus all of our tourists and boaters, it's a no-brainer," said Skrpzak.

The S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie also donated a van to the Erie Fire Department's Dive Team back in 1995, which is still in service.
