First Erie Coke Air Quality Samples Being Sent for Testing
Erie News Now has learned the first samples collected by air quality monitors in and around the Erie Coke plant are being sent to a lab for testing Wednesday.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is looking for compounds related to coke production.
The results are expected next week.
The sampling comes in response to concerns raised by the members of a community stakeholder group.
The DEP denied Erie Coke's application to renew its operating permit earlier this month.
The company is now waiting for a judge to rule on the future of the plant.
