Investigation Underway into Man's Deadly Fall From Cellular Tower
The Pennsylvania State Police Crime Unit in Franklin is investigating a man's fall from an AT&T tower as an accidental death.
The incident happened at 523 Cooperstown Road in Jackson Township, Venango County just before 4:00 a.m. Thursday.
Investigating officer Adam Haun reports that William Eugene Wall, 55 of Centerville walked from a campfire with family and friends to the cell tower on an adjacent property 250 feet away.
Wall apparently climbed a 7-foot fence and proceeded to climb the 280-foot tall cellular tower in foggy weather conditions that made the tower surfaces slippery.
They believe he slipped while climbing to the top, falling to the ground below and succumbing to his injuries.
According to a the state police report, family members attempted life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful.
The investigation is ongoing with the help of the Venango County coroner.
