Former Camp Fitch Director Pleads Guilty to Sexual Exploitation Charge
A Fairview man has pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of violating federal laws relating to the sexual exploitation of children.
Matthew E. Poese, 47, pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge David S. Cercone.
In July, investigators say Poese "knowingly possessed and accessed with intent to view" images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. According to court documents, Poese used a cell phone, a hard drive, and a network storage device for the child pornography.
Shortly after his arrest, the the YMCA of Youngstown sent a letter to all Camp Fitch parents, calling the charges "disturbing." They also claimed the charge did not allege misconduct or inappropriate activity with any Camp Fitch camper. The letter also said background checks on Poese came back clean. Erie News Now learned Poese's last day at the camp was June 19.
Poese's sentencing is scheduled for December 9th. The law provides for a total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
