Funeral Planned Saturday for Four of the Five Child Fire Victims
Two churches are coming together for the funeral of four of the children who died in the devastating fire at an Erie home daycare.
The little lives of the Overton and Jones children will be remembered in a funeral service at Second Baptist Church at 757 East 26th Street Saturday.
They plan to have four caskets at the front of the church for bodies of La’Myhia Jones, 8; Luther Jones Jr., 6; Ava Jones, 4; and Jaydan Augustyniak, 9 months.
The pastors of both Second Baptist and Shiloh Baptist will participate in the funeral service and eulogies. Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at noon. They're preparing for an overflow of those coming to mourn with them.
The church family is praying for and supporting both families at this terrible time. Pastor Lamont Higginbottom Sr. said it will be the hardest eulogy of his career to give. "Although there are many questions we just continue to remind them of the love of God and even though it doesn't seem like it now, God is still good even in this," Higginbottom said.
Aunt of the victims Kim Overton, who is helping to coordinate the funeral said, "We try to give her comfort, comfort in the scripture, comfort in us being together as one we just try to let her know that they're in a better place."
