Police have arrested a man who they said fled from a DUI checkpoint in Millcreek Township and led officers on a pursuit that ended in Girard Township late Friday night.

Alec Hartleb faces several charges including aggravated assault, fleeing and eluding police, driving under the influence and numerous traffic violations.

A gold Toyota Camry with an Ohio plate entered the checkpoint set up in the 2400 block of W. 8 St. as part of a joint DUI Task Force operation around 11:52 p.m.

After speaking briefly with a sheriff, the vehicle sped away at a high speed, almost hitting the sheriff and a police officer, according to Millcreek Police.

A marked Millcreek Police vehicle tried to stop Hartleb, but he continued to speed away until he crashed on private property on Middle Rd. in Girard Township, police said.

Hartleb attempted to run away, but Millcreek Police and Erie County Sheriffs arrested him after a short foot chase, according to police.
