Community Shows Support At Homegoing Service for Fire Victims
Almost a week after the heartbreaking tragedy that saw five children perish from a West Erie fire, Saturday was a time for healing and remembrance of the lives of four of the five victims.
Many in the Erie community came to the “homegoing” service today at the Bayfront Convention Center to show their support.
"In our culture we celebrate these children and we believe they are actually in the hands of God and so we come to celebrate their life," the officiant for the service, Rev. Anthony Harris said.
"I think the entire community has done a lot and just keep them in your prayers." Erie Fire Chief Guy Santone said.
Others in attendance at the service said they wanted to show support for the families affected and show the power of community. Jaci Phillips came to the funeral to show her support and was amazed by the family’s perseverance through this tragedy as inspiring.
“You have been an inspiration to us here in Erie, on T.V. and even here today, it's an inspiration to all of us,” Phillips said.
