Erie Police Identify Witness, Looking for Others in Fatal Motorcycle Hit-and-Run
Erie Police said they have identified a witness as part of the investigation into last Friday's hit-and-run that claimed the life of a motorcyclist, but they still want to talk to anyone else who saw the crash happen.
Detectives Friday released surveillance photos of a man seen driving a white van who ran over to the scene immediately after the crash. They believe the man, who has since been identified, may have critical information that can help in the investigation.
The crash happened at W. 8th St. and the Bayfront Parkway on Sept. 6 just before 11 a.m.
The victim on the motorcycle - Darcy Phillips, 58 - passed away at UPMC Hamot Sunday morning, according to the coroner. Her death was ruled as accidental from blunt force trauma to the head.
Police are still trying to locate the suspect vehicle, which is an older model maroon Toyota RAV 4 with gray trim and a gray spare tire cover. The vehicle is believed to have damage to the rear, passenger-side area, according to investigators. It was last seen driving east along W. 8th St.
Investigators impounded a vehicle Sunday as part of the investigation but later determined it was not connected to the crash.
Anyone who witnessed the hit-and-run or has information is asked to contact Cpl. Dunmire at 814-870-1171.
