The memories of military veterans who lost their lives to suicide will live on at the Erie VA Medical Center even though Suicide Prevention Week is coming to an end.

20 flowers were planted Friday in a memorial garden outside the center's Behavioral Health Clinic. They represent the 20 veterans who are lost to suicide each day.

Sadly, 14 of those 20 veterans never reached out to the VA for its services

A plaque was also placed in the garden to honor those veterans and to serve as a reminder of the VA's commitment to help those who wore a military uniform.

"Our top initiative is just #BeThere," said Colby Mitchell-El, VA suicide prevention coordinator. "We want everyone to come together just to work together to prevent suicide."

The VA Medical Center also held a walk, wellness event and panel discussion for employees during Suicide Prevention Week.
