A man hit by a car late Friday night on West 26th Street died a short time later at UPMC Hamot.

The victim is identified as 46-year-old Brian Carlow.

Coroner Lyell Cook said the man died of blunt force trauma from the impact of the accident.

Witnesses say Carlow was hit by an eastbound car around 11:00 p.m. on Friday, near the intersection of West 26th and Sigsbee Streets.  Cook said the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:39 p.m.

Erie police are continuing to investigate the accident.  They confirm that the victim was wearing all dark clothing when he was hit by the car.

The driver of the car stayed at the scene of the accident.  Police took him hospital for blood work. So far no charges have been filed.

Several passengers in the vehicle were not hurt.

The car was towed from the scene.
