All the signs of why Brad Rzyczycki recruited Jimmy Keefe to Gannon showed up Saturday as the Golden Knights quarterback threw for five touchdowns in a 51-35 win over Clarion.

The redshirt-sophomore signal-caller was efficient, completing just 12 passes for 374 yards. The 51 points by Gannon were the most scored since 2017 against Seton Hill when the Golden Knights posted 76.

This victory also was the first time since 2013 that Gannon won its PSAC West opener.

The Golden Knights jumped out quickly on Keefe's first touchdown pass of the day. He found Tyger Winston on a 51-yard pass to put Gannon up 7-0.

Melvin Blanks and Zevin Holley each added a rushing score around another Keefe touchdown pass to help Gannon out to a 27-0 lead.

Redshirt-senior wide receiver Joey Cox had the highlight catch of the day from Keefe. He bounced off and avoided multiple defenders on the way to a 75-yard touchdown reception to open Gannon's lead to 34-7 in the second quarter.

The Golden Knights traded chances the rest of the way with Clarion who lost starting quarterback Jeff Clemens to an injury in the third quarter.

With the victory, Gannon improves to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the PSAC West. They remain home to welcome Edinboro to town next week at noon at McConnell Family Stadium.
