Slippery Rock quarterback Roland Rivers paced the prolific offense for the tenth-ranked Rock in a 45-14 thumping of Mercyhurst.

The senior signal-caller passed for four touchdowns, adding another on the ground. The Georgia-native had 248 total yards


while finding four different receivers through the air.

Slippery Rock kicker Jake Chapla broke the school record for points scored after adding nine points on his afternoon. He passed the mark that had stood since 2000 by Stan Kennedy with 318 points.

Mercyhurst's defense got the Lakers on the board in the second quarter thanks to a Joseph Scro 18-yard interception return touchdown. Mercyhurst continued to chip away before the half. Doug Altavilla found junior running back Garrett Owens on a 41-yard pass play to put the Lakers within 10 at 24-14.

Mercyhurst got no closer. Slippery Rock scored 21 unanswered to finish off a 45-21 victory to improve to 5-0. The Rock held Mercyhurst to -12 yards rushing and just 162 yards overall.

Slippery Rock meets #19 IUP next week in a battle of unbeatens.
