Concrete Floor Poured as Part of JMC Ice Arena Renovations
Construction work is well underway at JMC Ice Arena in Erie.
Crews got an early start Friday pouring the concrete flooring for the ice arena.
The ice rink closed back in 2017 because of a leak in the arena's ice-making system.
The doors will soon re-open thanks to a $2 million state grant.
The rink is also getting new bleachers, lighting and ceiling.
Leaders hope the updated complex will attract many ice skaters and hockey teams.
"It has been a big part of our operation for many, many years," said Scott Mitchell, president of the Erie Zoo, which owns the ice rink. "My first day on the job was actually at the ice rink a long time ago. It has been apart of our Erie community for over 50 years, so we are just thrilled to get her up and running."
The rink remains on track to open in November.
