The Pittsburgh Penguins were dealt difficult news Monday. Head coach Mike Sullivan announced that centers Evgeni Malkin and Nick Bjugstad will be out with long-term injuries.

Both left Saturday's game against Columbus and did not return.

Sullivan added that Malkin is expected to be out longer than Bjugstad. The Penguins head coach did indicate that Malkin's injury is not season-threatening

The injuries are mounting early for the Penguins who lost winger Bryan Rust long-term in the preseason finale. Pittsburgh currently has 10 healthy forwards on the roster, so they will need to make a move or two to call up additional players.

The Penguins return to the ice Tuesday against the Winnipeg Jets.
