The final phase of a multi-million dollar renovation project at UPMC Park is now underway.

The Erie County Convention Center Authority, better known as Erie Events, broke ground Monday on upgrades to the ballpark, which include a new entrance and renovated beer garden.

Crews will be building a new structure on E. 9th St. and a new entrance plaza.

A new 250-seat stadium club will sit atop the new E. 9th St. structure overlooking left field.

"We couldn't be more excited," said Greg Gania, assistant general manager of Erie SeaWolves. "This is going to enhance the downtown Erie sports scene for both the Seawolves and the Otters, and it's just a huge addition to our community."

The gate is expected to open at some point during the next season, but construction will not impact the start of the season.
