Leader partners have been selected for Harding and Perry Elementary Schools as part of United Way's community schools initiative.

The YMCA of Greater Erie will be the lead partner for Harding. Erie Family Center will fill the same role for Perry.

“We are excited to be a partner at Harding Elementary School and work with school administration, faculty, and parents to support
generations of children and their families in their unique journey,” said Tammy Roche, vice president of membership, marketing and financial development for YMCA of Greater Erie.

"Through this partnership we (Erie Family Center) hope to strengthen the school, family involvement and community partnerships to better support the Perry Elementary students,” said Kristen Costa, Director of the Erie Family Center.

The United Way is looking to immediately hiring a community school director for each school.

Community schools bring wide range of resources directly into the school to support students and their families, removing barriers to learning so children can succeed.

Community school directors work closely with the principal and Community School Leadership Team to address ongoing needs and develop an action plan that guides all of the school's non-academic activities. The position is funded through the United Way and employed by the lead partner.

Eriez Magnetics has already been named the corporate partner for both schools. It provides financial support and other support including volunteer engagement and professional development.
