The leader of the Erie Fire Department will retire at the end of this year.

Erie News Now has learned that Chief Guy Santone will step down after 33 years with the city.

He has been chief since 2016.

He was chief inspector for 8 years prior to becoming fire chief.

Santone says his most vivid memory is right after the first big fire he fought after joining the department many years ago.

He said, "I got through it and when I got through it the adrenaline was flowing right through me. I knew this is the job for me. That day stands out more than any other day i have been on the department."
