The battle was on Sunday for the best tacos in Erie, all for a good cause.

The taco competition at Union Station benefited Early Connections. The program provides direct services to families including early child care services and education.

Eight restaurants served up their best tacos to support Early Connection's six locations. They provide care and early education to about 300 kids everyday.

"Quite a bit of our revenue comes from government sources, contracts, grants and so on," said Darlene Kovacs, executive director of Early Connections. "This is really an opportunity for us to get some extra money. It'll allow us to enhance the programs get some extra materials and activities for the children and make some improvements in our centers."

After the votes were counted, Lavery Brewing Company had the best taco in Erie.

Judges' choice for best overall taco went to The Cork 1794. Best taco with a twist went to Molly Brannigans.

Early Connections called the event a big success and said it will do it again next year.
