A state effort to get drivers to slow down in highway work zones could soon be getting a technology upgrade.

PennDOT said it wants to use speed cameras in work zones to catch speeders.

Next week, PennDOT will start a 60-day pre-enforcement period.

Cameras will be set up, but drivers will not get tickets if they are caught, at least not yet, according to PennDOT.

Actual enforcement is set to start early next year.

PennDOT said drivers will only get a ticket if they go over the speed limit by at least 11 miles per hour, and there are highway workers present.
