Just one week before the Pennsylvania State Board of Education is expected to consider the proposal of a community college in Erie County, members of the Erie Education Association are throwing support behind the effort.

The Erie educators spoke out at a news conference this Wednesday at Erie High School.
Teachers believe the creation of a community college would benefit children and families they serve as not all students want to attend a four-year college.

The President of the Erie Education Society, Bill Kuhar, says "The facet that the community college offers is that that one class that couple classes that gives the future employee or current employee new opportunities. That's the part of the community college the community piece that we're supporting the community and we want to continue to support the community that way."

The educators at the Wednesday event say they hope the show of support for a community college in Erie County will help lawmakers listen to some of the people who live, work and pay taxes in the community.
