A mainstay in the community for the past 67 years, Gannon University received recognition this week for the Model United Nations event’s importance to the city of Erie and the area.

Thursday, Mayor Joe Schember declared November 8th and 9th as Gannon Model United Nations Days in the City Of Erie. The event welcomes over 400 students from 15 schools in the area to discuss and debate international topics. This year’s recognition by the city marks the event as the first and longest running model UN in the United States.

“Being validated by the community like that not only lends credibility to our program but really makes it known to us that we are having an impact that is positive in the community,” Randall Sutter, Secretary General of the Model United Nations, said. “I feel that is a major goal of our program, if not a major goal of Gannon as a whole.”
