The Erie School Board met in executive session Monday about the administration at Northwestern Pennsylvania College Academy, according to school officials.

Erie News Now was the first to report the district may transfer the long time dean of Collegiate Academy to another school.

Sources told us the issue is a letter dean Jim Vieira sent to his faculty leaders in response to removing a Collegiate Academy memorandum of understanding from the new teacher's union contract.

Vieira's internal letter called for continuing excellence at Collegiate Academy in spite of the contract change, but apparently not everyone saw it that way.

Students and parents started a Change.org campaign to keep Vieira in his position. It has since collected more than 2,600 signatures.

In comments posted online, many are questioning whether the district remains committed to the honors public high school.

Erica Erwin, coordinator of communications for the district, said officials cannot comment because it is a personnel matter.

She said there will be time for public comment at Wednesday's board meeting. It starts at 6 p.m. at East Middle School.

The public will be allowed to speak for three minutes at the meeting.
