Food Drive Collects Dinner for 3,000 Families
It's the time of year for giving. Second Harvest Food Bank and Erie Insurance are teaming up to help feed 3,000 families a nice thanksgiving dinner.
They call it the Turkey Man Project, and people are not just giving, but helping.
Today, they packed, stacked and wrapped 3,000 boxes full of food, with turkeys and trimmings.
Rick Hinman, a former Erie Insurance Employee, started the drive to help feed just one family, and never imagined how many people the drive would help.
“I was hoping, but I was actually hoping that there wouldn’t be that big of a need,” Hinman said. “That would be better for me if we didn’t have any to deliver because that would mean that everybody was already taken care of. We partnered with second harvest who takes care of feeding people every day. We just wanted to have a day that was special for us. And that's why all these people are here. They just want to make Thanksgiving Day special for a lot of people. 3,000 families.”
If you feel inspired...you can help feed more people in need with the Erie News Now Food Drive all day this coming Wednesday.
We'll be taking your donations of frozen turkeys and non-perishable food outside our studio and drop off sites around the region.
