Erie's family-run William T. Spaeder Company has been providing mechanical contracting services for 105 years, and it is still going strong.

It is a busy place with 250 employees involved in piping. Crews building systems used to move everything from water to chemicals, plus heating and air conditioning systems.

The company does some residential work. But the bulk of the business, as it has been for more than 100 years, is commercial and residential.

The work is not limited to Erie. Spaeder handles projects hundreds of miles away.

President Jay Spaeder said, "Probably 80% of our business is repeat customers. That is a pride right there that we are doing something good for everybody."

The company goes back generations beginning with founder William T. Spaeder and expanding over the years to many other family members.

Each generation embracing the family's strong work ethic.

Jay Spaeder said, "We learned to work hard and work for whatever you want or what you want to get out of life."

Managers say the hard working employees are a key to the company's success.

Jay Spaeder said, "We have people what believe in our company and believe in the way we want things done."

And increasingly the company wants things done with the latest technology.

Workers use computers to design systems to make the installations easier, faster and more efficient.
