The man wanted on charges in connection to a Harborcreek Township crash Monday night that split a SUV in half and injured three people has been arrested.

Nicholas B. Battles, 41, of Erie, was arraigned Wednesday morning on two felony counts of accidents involving serious bodily injury and numerous summary violations. He was then taken to the Erie County Prison with bond set at $50,000.

The crash was reported at E. Lake Rd. and Shomont Dr. around 8:05 p.m. Monday.

A Jeep Renegade driven by Battles was traveling eastbound on E. Lake Rd. at a high speed when it hit the back side of a Chevrolet Equinox, which was trying to turn onto E. Lake Rd. at the intersection, State Police said.

The impact of the crash split apart the front and rear passenger compartments.

The Jeep continued westbound, rolling over and coming to a rest about 380 feet from the crash, according to investigators.

Battles left the crash scene and was not located after a search of the area, troopers said.

The driver of the Equinox - a 35-year-old Erie woman - and two passengers - a 7-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy - were taken to UPMC Hamot with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to State Police.
