The Erie man charged in a 2019 homicide faces trial for the fatal shooting after a preliminary hearing Thursday afternoon.

A judge held Derrick Feidler, 34, for court on charges including homicide, first-degree murder, possession of an instrument of crime, two counts of aggravated assault and three counts of recklessly endangering another person. Two counts of aggravated assault were withdrawn.

He is charged in the November 2019 shooting death of Jose Arena Jr., 38, at a home along W. 35th St. in the City of Erie.

Feidler claims he shot Arenas after the victim pulled a knife on him during an argument and claims he was defending himself and his young daughter from an impending attack.

He remains behind bars after being denied bond.
