An axe throwing facility is in the works at the Liberty Plaza.

The hatchet throwing trend has become more popular over the past few years.

Stumpy's Hatchet House will be located right next to Dickey's BBQ and construction begins next week.

Owner, Erin Samlock, tells Erie News Now they are excited to bring a new life to the empty store that has been vacant for years.

"We feel it's a great central location here in Erie it will support the City of Erie and we'll be able to bring some jobs in," says Samlock. "We're just so excited."

Samlock say's it not just a place to throw hatchets but a place to socialize.

"You walk in and it feels like a big lodge cabin there is oversize chairs, over sized couches, and you're really there to just socialize not just throw hatchets,"

The throwing pits will be named after significant places in Erie.

"We named 5 of our pits based off suggestions we got from people in the community so we're trying to get the community involved," says Samlock.

It's a place to celebrate on any occasion.

"It's a social throw down, it's a social environment when you can come in and have fun with your friends, family, and co-workers."
