Federal Lawsuit to be Filed over Plans to Close Polk State Center
Community stakeholders tied to the Polk State Center in Venango County are filing a federal civil rights suit against Gov. Tom Wolf.
A group of staff and the families of residents will announce the lawsuit Tuesday at the Capitol Building in Harrisburg.
The lawsuit alleges closing the Polk State Center is a violation of the Civil Rights Act and the United States constitution.
In August, the Wolf administration announced plans to close both Polk State Center and White Haven State Center, which is in northeastern Pennsylvania.
In November, the Pennsylvania Senate passed a bill saying no state center could close until Medicaid recipients are transitioned to home- and community-based services.
The Wolf administration plans to close both state centers by 2022.
