A new, $2 million facility devoted to the treatment of people with lung disorders in northwestern Pennsylvania celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday morning.

The UPMC Hamot Comprehensive Lung Center was created to meet the growing need for specialized care.

It comes as the number of people being diagnosed with lung cancer and other lung diseases locally and across the country increases.

A specialized team of experts -  thoracic surgeons, lung specialists, medical and radiation oncologists - will provide individualized care for patients with lung disease.

UPMC is also working on recruiting more doctors to treat lung cancer.

The new center is located at 2500 W. 12th St. in Millcreek in the Hillman Cancer Center building, which is the site of the former Regional Cancer Center.

It offers free parking for patients.
