Today's mild weather allowed Harborcreek's Downing Golf Course to open, a rare event for mid-January.

It was sunny and 50 degrees when we stopped by the course around noon.

More than a dozen golfers were already on the course and a lot more were expected.

It was a treat for golfers who normally would have to travel to the south to get in a round to escape the typical snow and cold of an Erie January.

Golfer Roger Huggins said, "You know what I said when i came out here, this is amazing. The guy says playing golf? I said no, paying for it. I can't believe the golf course is open."

Golfer Rick Majewski said, "Perfect weather. I stopped by Walmart on the way and picked up sunscreen."

The golfers said the course drains well.

And conditions were pretty good, especially for mid winter.
