LATEST: Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has lifted all vehicle restrictions from Interstates 86 and 90 in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Additionally, speed restrictions on Interstates 86 and 90 have been lifted, as well as on Interstate 79 from Interstate 80 to Lake Erie.

Interstate 90 eastbound remains closed at Exit 45 (Route 20, North East) to the New York line as clean up continues following a multi-vehicle crash earlier Saturday.

Drivers are asked to use caution while driving during winter weather.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is imposing restrictions on certain trucks and other vehicles on the entire length of Interstates 86 and 90 due to high winds combined with sleet and ice in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Restrictions started at noon Saturday and will remain in place until conditions improve.

The restrictions ban the following vehicles:

  • Tractors without trailers;
  • Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers;
  • Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers;
  • Enclosed cargo delivery trucks that meet the definition of a CMV;
  • Passenger vehicles (cars, SUV’s, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers;
  • Recreational vehicles/motorhomes;
  • School buses, commercial buses and motor coaches;
  • Motorcycles.

Speed limits have been reduced to 45 mph on these interstates for all vehicles.

Commercial vehicles not affected by the bans must move to the right lane.

PennDOT is asking drivers to use caution, reduce speeds and be aware of changing weather conditions.

In response to the storm, PennDOT has applied anti-icing materials to many roads across the state and is activating its statewide command center and regional command centers in areas most affected by the storm.
