Drive-Through Teacher Parade Connects Students and Teachers at Warren School
Students and their families driving past St. Joseph Catholic School, Friday, weren't there for the normal daily drop off like days in the past. Instead, it was a drive-through parade. Principal Nancy Warner says it gives students and teachers an opportunity to connect after so much time apart.
"We really wanted the families to know we're here for them, and their school is here for them. We're going to get through this together," Warner said.
The idea came from computer, physical education, and violin teacher Judi Danielson. She saw a video online of teachers driving past students houses and waving. However, since students at St. Joseph are spread so far a part, they came up with a new idea, having the children come to the school.
"So we decided well let's do a drive by teaching waving and it evolved into the drive-through teacher parade," Danielson said.
"They wanted to do something for our school families, so they could see we're okay, and we could see they're okay. We did not really know what to expect, maybe 20 or 30 cars but I'm sure there were 60 or better," Warner said.
The day brought students, teachers, and families a little closer despite the physical distance.
