Local 13-Year-Old Supports Animal Shelters Across The Country
During the Covid-19 Pandemic many animal shelters are adopting by appointment only or are closed entirely. However, the number of animals in need does not slow down. That's why Avery Sontheimer has organized fundraisers to benefit animal rescue centers.
The 13-year-old of Corry PA, has set up a Facebook and GoFundMe titled, "Avery's Pawsitive Change" to support shelters locally and across the nation. She has also set up donation jars in businesses in the area for people to drop their extra change into. As donations come in she is drawing names of 10 shelters each week to send Walmart gift cards to.
While people are out gathering toilet paper and other essentials Avery suggests they should gather dog beds as well......As she encourages people to think of animals in need during these tough times.
"Instead of people just trying to worry about themselves, there's a lot of other animals out there that really need help and support because there's so many shelters," said Avery.
Avery said she hopes to continue helping animals when she's older as a veterinary technician.
