Saturday marks three years since fire tore through the historic Riverside Inn in Cambridge Springs.

On May 2, 2017, a kitchen fire broke out in the historic structure, engulfing the 132-year-old building in flames, eventually reducing the building into a heap of scorching rubble.

A year after the fire, a group of the former employees gathered at the site to reminisce and share stories, including two former housekeepers.

"I never thought I'd see that day,” said Dot Martels. “I always expected to have this here because it was here all my life.”

"I stood in the pouring rain, crying,” said Ellen Baber. “It was devastating. Just devastating.”

Jason Howles and his wife Deanna purchased the 25-acre site former site six months after the fire.

"We were devastated when we heard that the riverside was on fire," said Howles in a 2018 interview with Erie News Now. “We saw the site sit all summer, and we were concerned about what was going to happen with the property.”

They have since built and opened a microbrewery and restaurant, Riverside Brewing Company.
