The Erie Playhouse remains closed for the first time since World War II, but they have continued their mission of using the performing arts to help the community. Volunteers, including 11- year-old actress Avery Fiscus have stepped up to repurposed costume materials in order to create masks.

So far 1,500 masks were provided to UPMC outpatient centers. Next, the Erie Playhouse will provide masks to Erie YMCA daycare centers as more of the workforce returns to their jobs.

The act of community support was so impressive it warranted recognition from Governor Tom Wolf as he posted about it on his Facebook page.

"We’re doing this to help, to help the people here in Erie," said Executive Director of Erie Playhouse, Kate Nuebert Lechner. "But to get that kind of recognition from the state government was really great, it’s very humbling."

If your organization needs masks you can contact the Erie Playhouse here.
