Eight people, all of whom are Erie residents, were arrested in connection to the riot in downtown Erie Saturday night, including one man who attempted to throw a Molotov cocktail at police.

Tyvarh Nicholson, 28, was arraigned on multiple charges including assault of a law enforcement officer, riot and possession of explosive/incendiary material.

Police said he was seen trying to light a Molotov cocktail in the crowd in 300 block of State St. He tried to run away with his associates and was arrested, according to Erie Police Chief Dan Spizarny.

He is behind bars in the Erie County Prison on $25,000 bond.

Erie Police have started reviewing hundreds of hour of surveillance video and have issued issued an arrest warrant for Melquan D. Barnett, 28.

After reviewing video, investigators said he was seen committing arson at Ember+Forge. Rioters also broke several of the coffee shop's windows.

The incident was captured on video that was posted to social media.

Barnett faces two counts of arson and a count each of risking a catastrophe and riot, among other charges.

In a separate incident, a man was shot twice by an unknown suspect in the 500 block of State St. and had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital.
