It's been eight years since the American Cancer Society released a new list of preventative measures you can take against cancer. IF YOU WANT TO LOWER YOUR RISK, YOU MAY HAVE TO GIVE UP A FEW THINGS YOU'RE USED TO.


"Limiting alcohol intake, quitting smoking that's a big thing, obviously managing a healthy weight and trying to follow a healthy diet that's balanced including fresh fruits, vegetables, less in saturated fats moderate amounts of activity," says Dr. Tayshetye.

"One key thing is now heading into the summer obviously watch for sun, sun protection, wearing a hat. Those are common things we can take care of," says Dr. Tayshetye. 

KEEPING HEALTHY IN GENERAL IS IMPORTANT FOR LONGEVITY AND OVERALL WELL BEING.
BEING ABLE TO ADD EXERCISE AND CUT WEIGHT CAN BE BENEFICIAL AGAINST THE FIGHT FOR MOST CANCERS.

"The key component of cancer prevention is close ties with a family practitioner or primary care physician because they are the key link to make sure these patients get the screening on time," says Dr. Tayshetye. 

These guidelines change as more studies and information are made available. The American Cancer Society wants to remind everyone that the best way to prevent cancer is to make healthy choices.
