A graphic video has been posted to Facebook Tuesday morning after an overnight incident in the City of Erie put the life of a man in danger after being shot with fireworks.

A large group of people are seen shooting off fireworks at the victim, who is sitting in the middle of Wallace Street at the intersection with E. 6th St.

For nearly three minutes, fireworks are being directed at the victim's face and body while the group of people laugh and encourage the continuation of the attack.

At one point, the victim's hair catches on fire. He was able to use his hands to put out the fire.

While watching the video, Erie Fire Department Chief Darren Hart said the young man could have gotten very injured.

"I honestly can't believe what I'm seeing right now," said Hart. "I honestly can't believe what I am seeing right now."

Erie News Now spoke to a resident of the area on Tuesday. The resident asked to remain anonymous, but said the young man in the video knew exactly what he was doing. He also said that the man was paid a "couple of dollars" for the stunt.

"We understand the video went viral," the resident said. "But everything's cool."

The victim appears to get up and walk away from the scene; however, we do not know at this time whether he sustained any injuries or needed treatment of any kind.

At this time the Erie Police Department (EPD) has no comment on the video posted on Facebook, but they have launched an investigation.

This most recent fireworks incident is coming off an active period for fireworks use in the City of Erie.

Another resident of the area where Monday night's incident occurred said fireworks have been a nightly occurrence for the past few weeks. He said he personally informed Mayor Joe Schember of the situation.

Anyone with information on the incident seen in this video is asked to contact EPD Detective Chris Janus at 814.870.1151.
