Demand for Campground Sites Up As Pandemic Worries Ease
Campgrounds around the state are seeing a surge in demand as coronavirus restrictions ease up.
Demand is clearly up at Lampe Campground operated by the Erie Port Authority.
Nearly every site is filled.
Now earlier, many campers were canceling reservations because of concern stemming from the pandemic.
But that has changed.
People now apparently feel that camping is a safe way to get away from home and relax.
Camper Neil Oleson said, "People have been cooped up for months. I think they are looking for more of a safe thing to do."
Port Authority Executive Director Brenda Sandberg said, "Those who have a camper, they have a perfect reason to get out and camp. They are not having weddings or graduation parties. So we are anticipating it to be a very busy summer."
The authority expects Lampe to be very busy on weekdays and often sold out on weekends over the next couple of months.
