While a lot of us are loving the recent spell of hot, dry weather, local farmers are praying for rain.

At Antalek Farms in McKean, the dry spell means nearly non-stop irrigating in five fields of vegetables.

Owner Kyle Ferrick said, "Basically we are going out everyday now, in 2-3 fields everyday."

Water from tanks pumped into lines extending under black plastic in fields of cabbage, squash and other crops.

Planting crews also using water to ensure new plants get a good start.

Ferrick said, "That moisture in the ground gets that plan to start growing."

But Ferrick does not irrigate his 20 acres of sweet corn.

So he is hoping for rain to help that crop keep growing.

He said, It would be very nice to see some rain. It would be well overdue."
