144 local golfers teed off at Lake Shore Country Club today to raise money for local scholarships and to honor a late Erie school district teacher and principal.

During his time as a teacher and principal, Patrick J. DiPaolo helped many students through financial challenges in order for them to reach higher education.

Dipaolo passed away in 2013 from lime disease. Shortly after, his family set up the Patrick DiPaolo memorial scholarship fund and the DiPaolo Golf Classic.

Now in it's seventh year, the fund has raised over $70,000 in scholarships for Erie County student athletes.

DiPaolo was involved throughout the Erie County community and his family says most of the golfers there today were his friends.
