Plans to make the Bayfront Connector a quicker way to get across the city of Erie aren't sitting well with some people.

PennDOT has a multi-million dollar plan to redo the Connector as a highway, adding lanes and roundabouts to allow more vehicles to use the highway.

But some people are against the proposal, and gathered Wednesday night at the foot of State street to let their concerns known.

They called it the "Don't Give Up Our Bayfront" rally.

Rally organizer, Andrey Rosado, says PennDOT's plans will make it harder for people to access and enjoy the Bayfront, “When you hear the words $100 Million dollar plan for Bayfront you think it's going to be something that's beautiful, but in all reality this $100 Million dollar renovation is going to completely cut off the city's access to our Bayfront, it's going to help people that are out of town or in different counties in Erie to be able to bypass the city completely on their way to or from work, and I think it's going to be a terrible thing overall,” Rosado argued.

PennDOT has designed roundabouts to try to slow traffic at the intersections, but those opposing the project say that just won’t work, they're also concerned about the environmental impact of the highway.
