March Against Racism, Police Brutality Planned for Sunday in Edinboro
A march of solidarity is planned for this Sunday in Edinboro to honor victims of racial gun violence in the United States, most recently in Bedford, Pa. and Kenosha, Wis.
The 'Racism Has No Home Here' march, organized by French Creek Indivisible member and Washington Township Councilmember Lydia Laythe, is set to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30 at the corner of Meadville St. and Darrow Rd. in Edinboro.
The march is part of a nationwide effort to bring more awareness and justice in incidents of racist gun violence, at the hands of both white civilians and police officers, that occur at alarming rates across the United States, according to event organizers.
The group hopes the march will help keep the Edinboro community from ever becoming a site of racial violence or police brutality.
The Borough of Edinboro Police Chief Al Donahue has been invited to attend or agree to discussions with concerned citizens about how to prevent racist gun violence before it happens.
Organizers say the march has a physical distancing plan and attendees have been instructed to wear masks.
