National Fuel customers will pay more to heat their homes or use their gas appliances starting Nov. 1.

It has notified the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission of a 3.47 percent increase.

The adjustment to gas supply charges increases the monthly bill of a typical residential customer with annual usage of 100,300 cubic feet of gas by $2.36, from $67.99 to $70.35.

Market prices for natural gas remain at 12-year lows because of an abundant supply of Marcellus Shale gas, according to National Fuel. Nearly all of the gas used by National Fuel customers comes from northeast-produced shale gas, including gas from Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania utility companies are allowed to adjust gas supply charges every three months to reflect changes in the market price of natural gas.

Additionally, the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission (PUC) is lifting its current utility service termination moratorium, effective Nov. 9.

National Fuel officials say customers who are having difficulty paying their bills are advised to promptly contact customer service at 1-800-365-3234 to discuss payment arrangements and available payment assistance programs.
