Canadian Man Pleads Guilty, Sentenced for Murder of Motel Night Clerk
A Canadian man will spend more than 40 years behind bars after pleading guilty Friday to the murder of a night clerk at a Summit Township motel in 2018.
Ferenc Sarkozy, 23, of Toronto, entered a guilty plea to a count of third-degree murder and possession of instrument of crime. He was then sentenced to 42½ to 45 years in prison with credit for time served.
Sarkozy was arrested for the death of Gregory Mogush, 61.
Sarkozy was staying at the Motel 6 off Route 97 on July 15, 2018, and got into some sort of argument with Mogush, who was working as the motel's night clerk, that turned into a fatal beating, according to investigators. Sarkozy said he was disrespected by Mogush before the attack.
Sarkozy told troopers he attempted to burn Mogush's chest with a lighter, according to investigators. The coroner confirmed a burn mark on Mogush's body.
