A Geomagnetic Storm Watch is in effect through December 11th. Monday's coronal mass ejection from the sun, which is the result of plasma bursting from a sun spot, should make for a beautiful light show. The Northern Lights are created when charged particles hit the Earth's magnetic field, creating what some say are dancing lights. The auroras cause the sky to glow shades of green and red.

Those living in the northern United States may get a chance to view the Northern Lights again tonight. The lights could even make an appearance here in Northwest Pennsylvania.  While the auroras can be breath-taking, the event can cause problems with satellite and cell phone reception.

Tonight we are expecting fairly clear skies this evening with some high clouds late.  You will increase the odds of seeing the Northern Lights if you find a very dark location that has a fairly unimpeded view of the northern horizon.  Best time to see the lights is between 5 pm and 2 am.
