Erie News Now is coverage you can count on as the biggest vaccination effort in U.S. history is underway.

Nearly 3 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine are out for distribution on FedEx and UPS planes and trucks, and some boxes of the vaccine have already been delivered.

Monongahela Valley Hospital in Monongahela and UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh were the two hospitals in Pennsylvania to receive the first shipment on Monday.

On Tuesday, seven additional hospitals around the state, including Titusville Area Hospital in Crawford County, received shipments.

Erie News Now has learned that UPMC Hamot is expected to receive the vaccine this week. A shipment of 975 doses will arrive either Wednesday or Thursday.

The hospital is expected to get a call from Pfizer a few hours before it arrives.

Additionally, the vaccine is expected to arrive at AHN Saint Vincent Hospital on Thursday.

LECOM Health's Millcreek Community Hospital will not receive the Pfizer vaccine. Instead, they will get the one made by Moderna. If approved, 600 doses is expected to be shipped to Millcreek Community Hospital sometime next week.

Corry Memorial Hospital is also slated to receive the Moderna vaccine.

The timeframe for Corry Memorial is unknown at this time.

Hospital sites are selected by their ability to manage the cold chain requirement with the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, completion of the COVID-19 provider agreement, and successful onboarding with the Department of Health for necessary documentation of vaccination. The number of doses, recipient hospitals, and arrival dates are subject to change based on updated information from the federal government and Pfizer.
