This is the week Paul Wagner hangs up his pencil and reporter's notebook, or should I say keyboard and facebook live, and heads into retirement.

We've spent a couple of weeks celebrating his dedicated career in broadcast journalism.  He spent 41 years reporting for Erie News Now, covering everything from crime to development, courts to the environment plus all those Giving You The Business reports.

He anchored, he reported, he produced and anchored the news -- wearing many hats in his long career.

His last chapter included an Emmy nomination for his work reporting on the shocking priest abuse scandal here in Pennsylvania, talking directly with several brave victims who came forward.

A good reporter is always objective, keeping his or her opinion out of the story.  And Paul is that kind of good reporter.  He's receiving calls, cards and emails thanking him for always reporting with fairness, accuracy and objectivity -- a skill that seems more rare in the current climate.

On his second to the last day though, I decided to take him on a little tour of places he reported on fairly frequently, and asked him to drop the professionalism and share with viewers what he was thinking as he covered those stories.  You can hear his thoughts by clicking on the video report attached to this story.

As one who worked with Paul for all 41 of his years, I assure you, I will miss him and the community will miss him too.  You can see him one more time as he joins John Last and me on the final Insider public affairs show.  The theme is 2020 - A Year to Remember, it airs the last two weekends in December.
