Pizza deliveries ramp up on Super Bowl Sunday
For Valerio's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria, Super Bowl Sunday is the busiest day of the year. "This is by far probably the busiest as far as like volume wise for a short time frame,” said Michael Valerio, Jr., owner of Valerio’s.
It's all hands on deck to keep up with the influx of calls for pick-up and delivery orders. "Today is going to be interesting,” said Jim Monocello, a delivery driver at Valerio’s.
I rode along with Monocello, as he delivered food all over Erie. He's drove with Valerio's eight years. He’s worked seven of those Super Bowls. “It is the busiest day of the year. It's crazy. it's definitely a big busy work day,” said Monocello.
By the time it's all said and done... Valerio's is expecting to have sold around 500 pizzas and 10,000 chicken wings. They've even decorated for the occasion. "We try to make it a fun family atmosphere where everyone can enjoy the day and just try to have fun with it,” said Valerio.
He says they start preparing for this day about a week in advance. “It's all hands on deck. Everyone has a huge role in getting this day together. And when things come together, and we're serving our customers the way we love to serve them, we're pretty happy,” said Valerio.
Although the prep pays off, it's still a wild day for delivery. “People are still coming in, coming in, coming in,” said Monocello.
Even though a busy day like this might be long for a delivery driver. They'll keep trying their best to get food out the door. “I always tell them. I'm going to get your food to you as soon as I can. It might take a little longer than usual, but we'll try our best,” said Monocello.
