Nearly six years after a fire forced it to close, the popular Perkins restaurant in the heart of Edinboro is set to reopen.

But it's now facing a brand new set of hardships - this time trying to find workers. To address the problem, the restaurant is taking several approaches.

Signs in the window highlight the need for workers.

And while the pandemic has presented some challenges, the owners are increasing efforts to fill vacant positions.

The restaurant looks a lot different since a kitchen fire shut it down back in May of 2015.

It's been remodeled and sold to a new owner after the former owner filed for bankruptcy protection.

On Wednesday, the restaurant held a hiring event to fill both part- and full-time positions. And while they did not see much foot traffic, a Perkins spokesperson told Erie News Now the restaurant has filled 58 out of 83 open jobs.

While it has been difficult for businesses to find workers, the general manager says they've used social media to successfully find employees.

They've also teamed up with General McLane High School to help provide part-time jobs to students.

The restaurant is set to open on May 24. You can apply online or in-person until 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
